It seems there’s been a glitch in the Taylor Swift Multiverse, as two of her exes were just spotted enjoying a night out at the Bridge Theatre in London. The exes in question? Joe Alwyn and Tom Hiddleston, i.e. two of the men who may have inspired Tay’s 2017 track “Getaway Car.”

For context: Joe is currently starring as Heath in Henrik Ibsen’s play The Lady from the Sea, marking his West End debut. And who should attend Joe’s latest show but Tom, the man Taylor dated right before Joe? (Before you ask, yes, there is photo evidence, as captured and posted by a fan on Twitter.)

Naturally, Swifties are all making “Getaway Car” jokes. As one fan wrote, “This is literally the plot of getaway car.” Another asked, “What in the getaway car?” while yet another fan joked, “The cast of getaway car.”

If you’re not familiar with the lore, let me fill you in. It all started in May 2016, when Tay was spotted tearing up the dance floor with Tom at the Met Gala. Truly iconic.

The two went on to date for a few months before calling in quits in early September...but apparently, Tom wasn’t the only connection Taylor made at the 2016 Met Gala.

As she sings in her 2017 song “Dress” (which is most definitely about Joe), “Flashback when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached.” And ofc, Taylor famously had bleached hair at that year’s Met Gala, while Joe had his hair buzzed.

To make things more complicated, Tay was reportedly still dating Calvin Harris at the time, and by June 1, People broke the news that the couple had split. It’s still unclear exactly what went down, but fans think the lyrics to “Getaway Car” contain some answers.

For instance: “The ties were black, the lies were white / In shades of gray in candlelight / I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason.” Enter: Tom and/or Joe.

By September 2016, following her split from Tom, Taylor and Joe kicked off their six-year relationship, and while she’s now happily engaged to Travis Kelce, it’s clearer than ever that fans will never forget Met Gala 2016 (and the bop it inspired).
